The African for Agricultural and Advisory Services (AFAAS), had a partnership working visit to the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) in Chatham, UK, from 1- 4th December 2015. The key outcome of the mission was the signing of the Global Partnership and Collaboration Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions, dated December 2, 2015. Professor Andrew Westby, Director NRI and Dr. Silim M. Nahdy of AFAAS signed the MoU. The 5 years MoU provides a broader mechanism for strong engagement between the two institutional and their constituents.
The key elements of the MoU include among others: Climate change, Capacity development, Information services and knowledge management, Market-oriented Agricultural Advisory Services and Value Chains, Integrated pest management, Improving post-harvest management, Advocacy and policy.
AFAAS and NRI have common interest in improving the food security, nutrition and income of the rural and urban poor, and wish to collaborate to complement each other’s research efforts by jointly developing programs on the application of modern science, innovations and technology.
